About NetChai Chinese

The free English-language site of NetChai, an online Chinese school in Japan — built from what our native teachers actually teach in class.

Who we are

NetChai Chinese is the free English-language learning site of NetChai, an online Chinese school based in Japan. Since our school opened, our native Chinese teachers have taught live one-on-one Mandarin lessons to thousands of students — and this site brings that classroom experience to everyone, one phrase at a time.

Why NetChai Chinese?

NetChai is an online Chinese school operated by a Japanese company. For Japanese learners of Chinese, it is one of Japan's largest online Chinese schools. Today it also serves learners in English-speaking countries, including the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Our teachers

Our teachers are all Chinese and speak standard Mandarin. Every teacher speaks Japanese, and many of them speak basic English.

Chinese lessons for Chinese families abroad

We also offer lessons for children from Chinese families living in English-speaking countries. Two courses are available: a children's Chinese course with 100 lessons using NetChai's original teaching materials, and a course using Yuwen, the Chinese language textbook used in primary schools in China. They are designed for children living outside China who want to keep learning Chinese as a heritage or second language.

What you'll find here

Practical Mandarin, explained the way our teachers explain it in class: the phrase itself, when to use it (and when not to), how to pronounce it, natural variations, and real example sentences — every entry with pinyin and audio.

About the audio

Every pronunciation on this site is produced from the voice of a real native NetChai teacher, so what you hear is natural, standard Mandarin — not a generic robot voice. In live lessons, that same teacher (and our other native teachers) will correct your pronunciation in real time.

How we keep it accurate

Content is drafted by the NetChai Chinese team, checked against our school's own teaching materials, and progressively reviewed by our native teachers. Found something off? Tell us via netchai.jp — we fix things fast.
